Welcome to the Windows Experience Blog

Welcome to the Windows Experience Blog!

My name is Brandon LeBlanc. I’ve been hired on as a vendor to work on this awesome new project: blogging about the amazing experiences you can have with Windows Vista. Previously, I had been blogging at The Hive talking about my Windows Experiences there. The Windows Experience Blog will build off what we originally started at The Hive but take it to the next level – which makes this a very exciting project for me.

So you are probably wondering what it means to be a vendor working on a project with Microsoft. Being a vendor means I’m not a full-time employee (or FTE). At Microsoft, that means I have an orange badge instead of a blue. Vendors are usually hired on a per-project basis. My project will be the Windows Experience Blog here.

With the Windows Experience Blog, the idea is to showcase and talk about all the amazing experiences one can have with Windows Vista. I’m taking my lead from Nick who will continue to share news, information, and technical insight about Windows, and I’ll expand on that with the Windows Experience blog. The Windows Experience blog is focused on Windows Enthusiasts and dives deeper into the fantastic experiences within Windows. And the experiences here won’t always be experiences from myself or other folks at Microsoft. We want to highlight experiences *you* have as well! Expect to see lots of videos and lots of screenshots! Just like Nick, I plan to spend a lot of extra time beyond simply posting blog posts. I plan to continue the conversation into the comments on the blog posts as well. So don’t be shy! Leave a comment! I will try to respond to as many as possible. Please note that this blog isn’t a technical support blog. If you’re having specific technical issues with Windows Vista your best bet is to head on over to Microsoft’s public Windows Vista newsgroups.

Moving forward, we’ve got some great things planned for the Windows Vista Team Blog. Expect some excellent showcase posts on Certified for Windows Vista products and coverage from events such as MIX07, WinHEC and TechEd.

Right now I am preparing for my trip to Las Vegas to attend MIX07. Live MIX07 coverage begins this Sunday. Nick will be covering the announcements and I will of course be sharing my experience being at MIX with folks here.

You may have noticed a small change in the look of our blog today in the addition of "The Windows Experience"

After all the hassles you've had with MSTechToday it's good to see you've got a new home. I look forward to reading your thoughts as always.

Congratulations!  You and Nick will make an excellent "tag team".  :)

I am so confident that this will be a great resource that I've already added it to "Windows Vista Bookmarks".

Would love to be constructive, but am having a real problem with transitory but frequent hangups during which there's nothing to do but wait while the "busy" circle gyrates. (Dell Precision 490, 2 dual core processors, 2 hard drives, Ultimate}. Dell says I'm the only person in the world having this experience. Am I?

Why dont you start rebuttals to the Apple Mac adverts, sure alot of the ads are funny and true to a certain extent.

I just love the big inflated ad where the PC is full of bloatware!  Just like every HP PC Ive ever owned!

You could tell people the truth, that yes new OEM PCs are often installed with to many programs that may not all be useful to them, but some are, and the minor inconvenience of this extra software helps keep OEM PC costs down.

Plus in many cases you can simply uninstall these programs to free up space.  The exception being some real bad software like Vongo on your HP PC which HP should really deal with.  Giving out restore CDs without Vongo would help!

In general though most extra software can be easily uninstalled.

The same is true of the other Mac ads, they complain about features, which can if annoying be turned off easily.

So I just came across something that's marred my vista experience... all of a sudden I cannot select multiple files in explorer.  Shift / control clicking doesn't work, nor does ctrl-a and the select all option is greyed out of the edit menu.

The support site just gives me generic user answers to the search (ie: how to select all files), and there doesn't seem to be anything in the KB.  There are other reports of this on the web but the solutions (deleting registry keys) don't work.  Where can I get help on this or report it as a bug to hopefully get it fixed?  Appolagies for using this as a support site, but I honestly don't know where to go to ask!

arcterex, no apologies needed for posting your question.

I suggest heading over to the public Windows Vista Newsgroups with this issue:

http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/community/default.mspx

This is a great place to ask questions such as yours and product team members from Windows Vista are often in there answering questions. This is where I go when I have a issue or nothing shows in the KB.

Windows Vista, is to date, the sorriest operating system forced on the American Consumer. This even out does windows 98. There should be felony charges brought against Microsoft.

HELP, I use to have my screensaver doing my photo shots and it would cover the whole screen each picture it pulled up, now the pictures are doing various sizes, some small and only in the center of the screen, so small you can not see them, when they used to cover the whole screen. I looked for something that could change size but found nothing... anyone have this problem and what did you do to fix...
