Two New Games for Windows Titles Hit This Week

Michael Wolf over on the Gamerscore Blog announced on Wednesday two new Games for Windows Live titles hitting store shelves this week: Crysis and Kane & Lynch: Dead Men. Crysis received a score of 98 out of 100 by PC Gamer and utilizes Windows Vista's DirectX 10 offering incredible graphics. And Kane & Lynch: Dead Men is a Games for Windows - LIVE title supporting online game play for up to 8 players with free List Play for Silver users and, for Gold members, enhanced matchmaking and online multiplayer achievements.

Gears of War was also released as a Games for Windows - LIVE title earlier this month. The Games for Windows - LIVE update I posted about in October was released as well. Michael Wolf has some information on the update including some specifics about getting the update installed with Gears of War. I was able to install the Games for Windows - LIVE update flawlessly through Shadowrun. You can also download it and install it separately.

Remember, games under the Games for Windows brand offer easy installation, widescreen capability, native 64-bit support, and take advantage of Windows Vista's gaming features and technology (such as DirectX 10).

It is great Games for Windows expanding with new titles!

And to add, there are two versions for Crysis, the regular edition and the special collectors edition that boasts aside from the game: steel casing, a 32 page artbook, a making of disc, a soundtrack cd as well!!

Picking up Crysis today and it will make me cry... at my poor system specs.

Kane and Lynch, that can stay on the shelf with Soldier of Fortune 3 - I haven't heard good things about either!

I don't suppose you can give us an update on Halo 2 Vista -- is there a patch in the works? I'm one of the people that is extraordinarily frustrated by not being able to map custom keyboard controls under the "Custom Keyboard" dialogue box.

Frankly, I won't pick up another "Game for Windows -- Live" until it IS patched -- I'd see it as a commitment to games rather than just expecting the experience that I get out of the box to be the end of it.

I've been trying to find out if anyone even CARES about this problem for Halo 2 at Microsoft, but I can't submit a trouble ticket and no-one returns messages...

That all being said, I REALLY like the Live integration with the games and the services; it's implemented really well. I just hope other games allow you to customize your keyboard when they give you the option! Haha. :)

I have the same Halo 2 problems... I can't bind Mouse 3 to jump.  I end up having to use keypad 1.

If you install Crysis, you will want to make sure you have a recent backup.  It REALLY killed my Inspiron 1520...  For some reason the first time after I restarted my laptop after playing the game, it started always showing a bluescreen for about half a second, then restarting around the time that the login screen would normally show up.  I have Ubuntu on another partition, and I wasn't even able to access my windows partition, although it usually lets me otherwise.  My windows disk also did NOTHING when trying to recover any files that had problems.  I was not even able to get to the menu with the disk.  Luckily, I made a backup with acronis on the 28th, and I was able to restore to that.  That was by far the worst experience I ever had with a game...  (even worse that BioShock causing the game or sometimes my computer to crash whenever I switched areas in the game...)

Thanks for advice, I will backup all necessary files before I install the game, but I must admit that this is a first time I heard that some1 have problems like yours, hope I will not have similar issues. Once again thanks.

It did seem to work ok on my desktop, other than it not running all that great because certain parts of that computer are 3-4 years old..  The only other issues I noticed is that when using the Xbox 360 controller with a resolution other than the native one for my LCD, the arrow for the menus was off.  I also noticed that in the game, if you are modifying your weapon and press the binocular button, the look joystick is locked until you go back to that menu and exit the same way you got to the menu.

Can you tell me when DX10 will be released for XP Pro x64

It is what I run on my wife’s and my gaming computer, it is also what I run on all the computers at my work.

It is the best windows ever made, and I am so very happy with it, it games so good and fast. I run a very large Lan Party in my area and next to XP it is the second most popular OS at the LAN and many of the gamers running Vista have switch to XP x64.

There are Millions of us out there running XP x64 please don’t leave us out in the cold

We have a modern 64 bit OS give us DX10.

Is it safe to assume that GoW will run, sans issues, in Vista via Boot Camp?

johnhood, you should not see any issues running GoW or any other game on Windows Vista via Boot Camp on a Mac. You're essentially running Windows Vista full-on :-)
