Windows Mobile Device Center Beta Coming Soon

A lot of folks have been pinging us with questions regarding release of the Windows Mobile Device Center.  Today I’d like to personally give you the heads-up that next week you will get your chance to download the new WMDC Beta and sync your mobile devices up with newer builds of Windows Vista.

When the Beta goes online, it will first be available only in English, with more language supported in short order.  Don't worry on this last count, as language support is indeed a priority.

In the meantime, here's an image of the start-up screen for your viewing pleasure:

Once the beta is available for download, I will let you know -- keep your eyes open!

This looks really nice.  I have had that update on my Windows Update for a while now.  When I get my Smartphone, I'm pretty sure that it will be of use to me.

I'm diggin' it.  Good job.  :)

Any word on which build(s) of Vista will be supported with the new bits?  I've got RC1 now and would like to upgrade to the latest build of Vista but not if it will keep me from running the latest WMDC.

Will it have full ActiveSync functionality..please do so..especially saving the password and earlier WM device support.

And when should we expect FireWire support for Vista?

Looks awesome, hopefully it will work as well as the appearance suggests ;) Looking forward to trying it out on my new Windows Mobile 5.0 phone, along with the new Vista build 5728 I'm about to install! Will the WMDC beta be available to all? Cheers.

Out of interest, what was the issue with having ActivSync working in Vista? Why the need for it to be one or the other? And was the plan that if Windows Mobile Device Center wasn't ready to ship, to include ActiveSync, or just not allow people to sync their mobile devices as in RC1?

PPC 2002

I ordered a new Vista PC today and prepared the way by downloading drivers for my hardware. I was astounded to see that my Mio 168 (ppc 2002) purchased just two years ago isn't supported. One of my main uses requiring connection is for flight software updates. It doesn't appear that the Mio can be upgraded to PPC 2003.   HELP !!!!!
