Games for Windows now showing stores

This past weekend I happened to stop by a Best Buy and caught a display of new Games for Windows that have been just released.  You can view our original announcement of these new Games for Windows at the Microsoft Press Pass.

I happened to snap the photo below with my Windows Mobile 5.0 phone (please excuse the blurriness).

This is what a couple of the games look like "out in the wild," in case you need help making an ID.  From what I hear Flight Simulator X is absolutely stunning -- I cannot wait to get my hands on it :)

So basically the logo means that the games have followed guidelines that will help ease game installation, increase reliability and add support for key Windows Vista features, such as the Games Explorer and Parental Controls.

One thing that helps ease game installation is having a game come on a DVD and not spanning multiple CDs, so I hope that is part of this new standard.   However my main gripe with games, and any program is sloppy uninstalls, I really dislike programs that don't uninstall properly.

The logo looks good though, and if it will help parents and relatives pick titles that work with the vista parental control feature then this is progress in the right direction.  Back when I grew up games weren't as photo realistic as they are today!

Saddly though, Company of Heroes doesn't work well in Vista. It flashes like nuts, as does MCE and picture slideshows. I believe this not to be a Vista problem, but probably Nvidia's fault :( I just wonder really, how does Relic/other game developers test their games on Vista when it just doesn't work right? This may sound overly critical for an unreleased OS, but it is only because I like it so much. I am part of the Techbeta program, and I have become attatched to VIsta, and I want to use it as my main OS, but that is impossible. I want to game and Vista doesn't provide that right now, even this close to RTM, most games are unplayable. Anyways, the Vista Orb on the games looks awesome ;), I hope PC gaming gets a jump start from Vista.

Hey Posted by Trix.rox:  sounds like you're experiencing the lag btw the completion of the OS and partners updating their drivers -- keep your chin up, things will get better by the day once we release.

I don't got problems with games in vista, accturly I use it as my main OS, and games like Call of duty 2 (not 1, it lagges because it doesn't automatisly turn of aero), battlefeild 2, empire earth and so on does work fine for me

I want to say that I'm getting a little discouraged at how hard it is to find PC games in actual stores.  It looks like the specialty stores are phasing them out (EB and Gamestop).  I can't find one of those cool demo units except at one Target, where it doesn't even work (but then, all of the X360 and ps2 display units are disable in the mall, too).

I guess part of it is that the move to laptops means that most people can't play most PC games.

Are there any significant plans for digital distribution?  At various times in the past, MS released Arcade software, you have always included solitaire in Windows - is there any plan for a branding around this like there is XBLA for X360?  Not like Diner Dash needs another outlet, but it would be cool if we could get some PC classics.  Civ 1, Alpha Centauri, Mechwarrior, XWing vs. tie fighter, all of these are small enough to download.

Speaking of Gaming any more news on how Vista will tie into Xbox live so you can play your PC games on Vista against a friend playing on Xbox live.

I was just reading here about "Live Anywhere vision"

http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/2006/may06/05-09G4WE3LineupPR.mspx

this is such a cool concept, and could potentially bring together more people to play games online.  More = better, as community really matters.

Will Halo2 on Vista be able to play against Halo2 Xbox/Xbox360 sometime?

Game is always an important thing. For example if you have 5 minutes pause at the job, you can play some good peaces.
