What's the URL to see where the retailer near me is?

Is there a list of which store locations near those cities will have the events?  Will the events only be at the stores in those cities or the stores also in the area around those cities?

Posted by skaorsk8

wait - how is NY not on that list? We have TWO football teams, and I don't even LIKE football

Posted by lschaef

BTW...Pittsburgh is spelled with an "h".

Posted by Korn1699

Is there only one location per city?

Your valuable Windows community... provided they live in the US. The rest just don't seem to be that valuable?

I don't know who picked the stores though because the closest event to me isn't that close and isn't near any other Microsoft event that has been around here.

Microsoft has partnered with The NFL, Fox Sports, and 3 major retail chains to bring you the Ultimate

All of the cities do have an NFL team, but not all of them have a coach anymore,  and some of them may be right click moving   their coach to another city.

I'm sure glad that you partnered with Fox Sports from Murdoch's organization, instead of the consumate idiots at Fox News who were dumb enough to float a story that Barack Obama lol attended a Midrasa as a kid.

You have to love the idiots at Fox News--trying to float perhaps a familiar spy novel plot that lol the Presidency has been infiltrated by terrorists.

Their high ratings proove that you can be afflunet and still dumb as a rock in America.

I wonder if Best Buys will sell significantly more dual cores staying open an extra four hours.

Bas, I can understand fully.

Amazon.com     £197 GBP at todays exchange

Amazon.co.uk  £345 GBP

Now is there any reason I can't just order it from Amazon US site? Will the updates block a UK IP address when doing updates? I can't stand being ripped off and there is no reason for such a large price difference.

Also why does no one from Microsoft give a toss?

Posted by mrmckeb

@ James. Buy it from the US. There is no issue there.

And WHERE IS MY AUSTRALIAN LAUNCH PARTY?

Posted by ballroomwest

Bas is right.  What about the rest of the world outside of the all-important-US of A??

It so sucks to be English.  Where's our parties Brits??? Where's the atmosphere? Where's the anticipation and buzz that those Americans are so great at creating and revelling in??

I gotta move to the States I don't wanna miss out on the party atmosphere of the next future Windows OS beyond Vista. I almost feel like flying over just to join in the buzz.

Only in America would you get a massive Nationwide Bus Tour like that! lol. Gotta love 'em, always pulling out stops.

Who knows maybe there'll be something goin down in London party wise??

I agree Vista seems very expensive in Europe, but I figure it's gotta be worth it after such a drawn out developement cycle. And its not everyday a new Windows is released. This is the biggest launch since 95 and I didnt even have a PC then.

(I'm just praying that the new file/search in Vista is not gonna be as irritating and flaky as the one in XP *spit*.)

Anyway........ONLY FOUR DAYS TO GO WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Posted by ballroomwest

Yeh...........would there be any problem in ordering it from the USA and using it in Europe/Britain???

Would it detect where it was bought from and where its being installed and take appropriate action???

To be honest I rather just shell out this once and have the satisfaction of buying it in Store with all the buzz (what buzz!).  Theres always that horrible feeling of will it-wont it, when you order internationally.   Will it come on time etc, will it get lost. will customs slap extra tax on it!? etc. etc.

good to hear you care about the community.

but do you really care? nah. this is purely promotional... i wouldn't even bother, but this is another case in which you ppl of redmond,wa display your ignorance of the rest of the world.

it's good that you're doing something for the testers and enthusiasts in the u.s., but it just plain sucks, that the rest of the world is being ignored again (...and again, and again and again...).

of the 30k+ testers you had worldwide, most may live in the u.s., but there's people overseas you guys are just ignorant about. ok, the uk gets some love, but all that's happening there community-concerned has it's origin in the efforts of ms.co.uk, cause otherwise there wouldn't be anything happening at all.

here in germany there's only gonna be a press event for some high heeled celebrities. that's it. so we don't count? microsoft germany is telling us, they can't do anything, because redmond is not letting them... well great! thanks for not caring about the rest of the world.

ok, i guess i was being over-enthusiastic seeing what effort you us-guys put into the bloggers... ok it was only marketing, but that's at least SOMETHING. microsoft germany doesn't even know about windows home server... how can that be?

here's what i want from you (well i actually don't count on this posting being published): get yourself together and start doing something for the rest of your oh-so-great community. and get yourself together and start working with your worldwide subsidiaries.

that's it. i'm done. thanks for reading this long post. ms should be wondering why everybody in my country thinks it really is the big bad company from the us. ps: one thing left: there are even community websites that are not in english language. must be a shocking fact.

i'm being sarcastic, but what else is to be expected...

As always no reply.

Can I have a definate answer? Will buying it in the US and shipping it to the UK have any problems i.e will updates work OK will anything detect my UK IP and cause problems?

I think it rather extraordinary that a potential customer to some software costing £345 can't have an answer to a simple question.

I give up. )-:

What isn't Microsoft doing to help launch Windows Vista? Here is a round up of the things that I have

Posted by Bas

In the "Multiple Announcements Today" post, Nick assured us that he's looking into it and will get back to us when he gets the full story from the Program Manager: "Please bear with me as I will post them as soon as I'm able."

That was last week. I'm sure he'll be able to get back to us soon. Meanwhile, my local Microsoft office has been less than responsive to my contacting them. They -really- don't seem to care.

Anyway, I'd also like a definite answer to the questions posted above. Will we be able to simply buy the US version (and possibly download a localised MUI)?

Got my invitation e-mail, yesterday and it has a link to all the stores and addresses in the city's that have the Vista party in the stores.

Thanks for sticking with, me, Bas -- you may have read that I've been on the road for the last 10 days ;).  I've circled back with the Product Manager responsible and prodded him for a quicker response to the questions resulting from thread, and do expect to have that for you soon.

Excellent news. Meanwhile, my local Microsoft office -also- contacted me. They apologised for the delay and will provide me with a response 'soon'. Good to hear you guys are taking us seriously. :)

How come New York City, where Vista is supposedly being launched, doesn't have any participating stores for this event? Anyone know of NYC specific events?

Around the world tonight, Windows Vista and Office 2007 go on sale. Here in the States Microsoft is throwing parties in just about every city with a pro football team, and

Oh boy, an exclusive invitation to buy Vista!  I feel so special!

Sorry, but what's the big deal here?  Just a bunch of hype.  I've ordered my copies of Vista online, although I had hoped to get a free copy, or a discount, or something for all those bug reports I filled out testing the betas.  Oh well. . .

Hey James__, et al:  I've conferred with the colleagues of mine responsible for pricing and have learned that in each locale throughout the world, Windows Vista is close in price to what customers would have paid for Windows XP.  To more directly answer your question, yes, you can buy Windows Vista from a US retailer and use it in the UK without fear of functionality issues.

Thanks for getting back to us about that, Nick. I have my doubts about that reply, because whereas I could get XP Pro for about €350 last year, I'm paying €550 for Vista Ultimate now. That's some super-fast inflation. Then again, it could depend on which version of Vista could be considered comparable to XP Pro. Obviously, the less complete versions are cheaper.

Anyway, thanks again for the effort, and for getting back to us about that.

Bas,

Vista Business is comparable to XP Pro, just as Home Premium is comparable to XP MCE.  Vista Ultimate is a combination of both.
