It's Windows Vista Week at Channels 9 and 10

Windows Vista Week has begun at Channel 9 and Channel 10.  Over on Channel 9 they're covering Windows Vista from the developer side, focusing on building apps for Windows Vista as a user-centric operating system.  What technologies underlying Windows Vista make it what it is for the user?  And what can developers get out of those technologies to improve the user's experience with their Windows apps?  Channel 9 will take a deep-dive into those technologies this week.  Expect topics to range from UAC to the networking stack and beyond.

Also, Channel 9's Charles Torre has posted his interview with Michael Wallent on the 'what' and 'why' of Windows Vista's developer appeal.  Incidentally, I had the opportunity to interview Michael about Windows Vista product quality back in November, and he had some illuminating things to share, so I'm sure his words for devs will be equally valuable.

On Channel 10, the team will be covering a wide range of Windows Vista topics, too, in this case targeting power users (is that you?).  For instance, Tina Wood works hands-on with Ernie Booth while installing Windows Vista, and Laura Foy interviews Windows Mobile's Mel Sampat (creator of FlexWallet) about getting Windows Sidebar Gadgets to run on your Windows Mobile device.

Should be an interesting week ...

Wow I didnt even realise there was a Channel 10, that Snipping Tool they discuss looks interesting I usually use Alt+Print Scr keys to capture on Windows XP or Snag it if Im capturing something more complicated like a webpage.

Im sure Im gonna end up using that tool soon :-)  Thanks Channel 10

Funny enough I just told a guy about this tool while I was at my local CompUSA today, I overheard him talking to a member of staff, he was real pleased as he was looking for something just like this and as he already had Vista this was a great solution.

I just installed Vista Ultimate. It's cool. But I encountred a very strange problem.

I loginned in as admin user and modified a text file using notepad, then closed it. Now I use another program (notepad++, an open source text editor) to open this file. I can't see the modification I just made  in notepad!!!!!  And I can't see the modification in other programs except notepad and wordpad.

But if I loginned as normal user, this problem doesn't exist!!!

Is it a bug in vista?

Has anyone also encountered this issue?

I have the Dutch version of Vista Ultimate installed on a Dell Dimension 5000. However slow it's working well.

I found the following bug in Vista, the standard mail program, not Outlook, is having no Dutch speller but only French, German and English.

Having Office 2007 installed does not change the problem; I can’t select any other language.

So it's a must to use Outlook from Office.

According to Microsoft support there are no updates planned for this.

microcompspec, can you elaborate on what you mean by a "fix for unidentified networks"? Not sure what you mean by this... more information might help us find a solution for you.

Thanks,

Under vista, iside network and sharing center. There is sometimes an Unidentified Network Icon, and loacal area connection as wall.

I uninstalled IPv4 & IPv6, it Identified the networks, but once I re-install IPv4, the Unidentified Network Icon reappears.

Whats the fix that MS has for this besides a static IP...We don't have a static IP!

I've seen this before but only when I am conntected to my LAN via network cable *and* connected to a wireless network that is unknown at the same time. Is this a laptop by chance with built in wireless? Its possible the wireless card is picking up and connecting to a near by wireless network.

No...the ones we get are desktops and they are wired.
